SARS-CoV-2 is transmitted the same way as the common flu. The most common transmission of all viruses is through sneezing and coughing or close contact with an infected person (shaking hands, etc.). Viruses may also be transmitted by contacting a contaminated surface and then rubbing your eyes, ears, nose, or mouth.
According to the CDC, the number one way to prevent the transmission of harmful pathogens is though frequent hand washing with soap and water or with use of hand sanitizers, if no water is available.
