What would you do if your facility was affected by measles, influenza, or another type of public health outbreak? Increase your knowledge of biorisk management at the session "Discuss Biological Preparedness and Response," on Tuesday, November 19.

The session is brought to you by the Global Biorisk Advisory Council (GBAC), a division of ISSA. GBAC's Executive Director Patricia Olinger — a leading expert in biosafety and bioforensic restoration — will talk about how government, commercial, and private entities can respond to and recover from public health outbreaks and crisis situations.

This topic is especially timely, as cleaning professionals face challenges in preparing for and preventing these outbreaks. Facility managers and building service contractors will learn about decontamination protocols and infection-control practices. Distributors will learn how to help customers with outbreak prevention and proper cleanup tools.

Need more advanced knowledge? Sign up for the GBAC Bio-response Fundamentals Training workshop Thursday, November 21. This course is perfect for building owners and facilities managers who want to get certified as GBAC Forensic Restoration Technicians.

*A separate registration fee of US$750 will apply for the certification course.

Distributors know that supply chain management is a cornerstone of building a competitive advantage. One key supply chain pressure is the role of talent. Professors Marko Bastl and Mark Barratt from Marquette University's Center for Supply Chain Management will share tips for how to build a talent pipeline in an environment with a huge imbalance between supply and demand. Catch their session, "Don't Gamble Your Future Away: Bet on Supply Chain Talent," on Tuesday, November 19.

How far would you go to make your facility smarter or to automate your workforce? Technology is disrupting the cleaning supply chain, and the Innovation Center at ISSA Show North America is the best place to see and hear about the latest cleaning innovations.

Facility service providers, managers, and personnel are under increasing pressure to implement "smart buildings." Many new technologies are available to help expand the concept of "smart" beyond traditional HVAC and utility monitoring. Greg Scott, co-founder of Service Robotics & Technologies, will talk about the new types of smart devices on the market today and provide a checklist of considerations to use when evaluating these new devices for your facility. Don't miss his session, "Where to Start When Creating a Smart Building Ecosystem," Wednesday, November 20.

Additionally, building service contractors face pressures to adapt automation to facility services. Industry veteran Jon Hill, president of LaserClean Systems, will discuss how state-of-the-art cleaning equipment and automation can deliver consistent facility services and increase productivity by reducing the time taken to perform cleaning tasks. Catch Hill's session, "The Impact of Automation and Technology on BSCs," on Thursday, November 21.

The combination of record-low unemployment, an expanding economy, and government policies has created challenges for many businesses in the cleaning industry to attract, retain, and afford high-quality workers.

That's where John Nothdurft comes in. As ISSA's director of government affairs, he is up-to-date on government regulations and proposed legislation. Nothdurft's panel "You Are Not Alone: Isolated Workers and Sexual Harassment," on Tuesday, November 19, will cover the higher incidence of sexual harassment in the cleaning services sector. John will discuss how employers and employees can proactively address the issues and what legislative actions are being proposed that could affect the industry.

Nothdurft's "State of the Labor" session on Wednesday, November 20, will talk about how the cleaning industry deals with labor shortages, and the various policy proposals at the federal, state, and municipal levels that impact the labor market: minimum-wage laws, overtime, criminal justice reform, and immigration. Both sessions are at the new Solve for X learning experience area of the trade show floor, Booth 2601

If you're committed to tackling these challenges and more, join your colleagues at ISSA Show North America, November 18–21, in Las Vegas, NV. Remember, your trade show floor badge is free with promo code TRADEBADGE.
