Miller County Hospital
Damian Belvedere, Account Manager for Healthcare Services Group, manages environmental services at Miller County Hospital in Colquitt, Ga. His staff of 50 cleans three facilities that comprise a hospital with a 24-hour emergency room and a nursing home. Belvedere’s staff previously cleaned VCT floors in the hospital with brooms and dust mops prior to mopping or scrubbing with an auto scrubber. Michael Nguyen, Training and Special Project Manager for Building Services, chaired a lean process improvement group at the University of Washington to tackle stairwell safety. They were concerned about trips and slips on the stairs. The group recommended moving to cordless backpack vacuums for stairwell cleaning. This solution had a second benefit of improving productivity. A stairwell of seven flights from basement to top floor took 30 minutes to clean with a standard backpack vacuum.
