When facilities consider switching from traditional packaged cleaning chemicals to On-Site Generation (OSG) of cleaning solutions, a critical question emerges. How is the on-site generation of antimicrobials regulated?

OSG systems, which use electrically activated water to generate antimicrobials on site, are regulated by the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). They are considered pesticide devices and are therefore regulated per the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA).

The complexity of antimicrobial pesticide device regulation requires thoughtful planning and vigilant regulatory management during all stages of the product lifecycle. With an increasing number of antimicrobial pesticide devices on the market offering a variety of claims, it’s important to ask questions and request confirmation of efficacy testing from OSG system manufacturers.

There are significant differences between the various OSG systems currently available. Ask these questions to make the best, fully informed decision for your facility.

The Orbio® os3 on-site generation system was introduced in 2014 and already has hundreds of successful installations. Orbio Technologies is the sustainable cleaning arm of Tennant Company, a world leader in designing, manufacturing and marketing solutions that empower customers to achieve quality cleaning performance, significantly reduce their environmental impact and help create a cleaner, safer, healthier world.

Our testing data is in accordance with EPA-registered disinfectants and sanitizers, achieving Hospital Grade Cleaner Disinfectant/Food Contact Surface Sanitizer efficacy requirements. The EPA establishment number for the Orbio os3 is 090643-KY-001.

We have multiple third party certifications on cleaning solutions, including CRI (Carpet and Rug Institute) Platinum seal of approval for carpets and Green Seal GS-37 certification.

Orbio os3 has minimal consumable parts: add only softener salt and replace the pH probe annually.

Our OSG systems are easy to install, requiring only a water tap and an electrical outlet to get up and running.

Orbio os3 is a small, completely self-contained unit that can be installed in nearly any janitorial closet without storage tanks or racking.

You can have OSG in all your closets with optional os3 satellite stations that dispense cleaning solution and disinfecting/sanitizing solution in remote locations, with concentrated solutions made at the os3 generator.

Our direct sales force, technical specialists and select authorized distributors help you determine your needs and choose the right OSG device.

Our expansive, experienced network of direct service and authorized distributor service representatives get your OSG system up and running and can assist with troubleshooting and parts change-outs.
