Hospital Infections Are Easier to Prevent with New Geerpres® Click Mop System

In a recent Housekeeping Solutions article by Kassandra Kania, the following report appeared: “According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), an estimated 5 percent of all hospital admissions result in infections that patients acquire while receiving treatment for other conditions. These hospital-acquired infections (HAIs), also known as nosocomial infections, result in 99,000 deaths each year and $28 billion to $33 billion in excess costs.” The prevalence of hospital-acquired infections is not new, but efforts to eliminate or at the very least decrease these infections have been on the rise for years. Kania reports in the article that a major initiative of many facilities is improving education of the custodial staff regarding contamination and resulting infections.

Facilities need help to get the upper hand in this seemingly never-ending fight with infection and contamination. That is where manufacturers of cleaning supplies and equipment like Geerpres® Inc., of Muskegon, Michigan, can come play a significant role. Because Geerpres® makes cleaning equipment that is more durable, more effective, and easier to use, custodial staff will have an easier time eliminating harmful contaminants throughout the facility. One key tool that has evolved over the last few decades has been the microfiber mop.

A Brief History of the Microfiber Mop
For the last two decades, Geerpres®, Inc., has been in the business of maximizing the efficiency and effectiveness of cleaning applications. In the 90’s, Geerpres® introduced the GPS™ 2000, the first patented “bucketless” fluid inboard handle. Standard models hold enough cleaning liquid to clean up to 2,000 square feet. The applicator, constructed of lightweight aluminum, is easy to carry and easy to refill, and the risk for contamination is decreased.

Around the time that Geerpres® introduced the GPS™ 2000, microfiber mops usually came with Velcro that attached the mop to the frame. This was an improvement over snaps and ties, but many people still did not feel Velcro was the ideal solution. The pocket mop, a mop that can slip into microfiber sleeves or “pockets” for easy cleaning, was next, but this too brought many problems to the cleaning process. Pocket mops usually come with many moving parts, for example, which not only can impact efficiency but can also make it easier for bacteria and other contaminants to find a home. Even more to the point, Velcro-style and pocket-mop style microfiber mops do not prevent the user from having to use hands to replace the mop head.

The New Click Mop System Solves All of These Problems – and More!
The patented Click Mop from Geerpres® takes care of a lot of the problems that plagued previous microfiber mop systems.

  • The Geerpres® Click Mop contains magnets on each end of the frame but not within the mop itself
  • Small metal disks are sewn into each end of the frame and won’t stick to the wash wheel when laundered
  • The Geerpres® Click Mop is one single piece constructed of heavy duty plastic – this leaves no room for bacteria and other contaminants to enter cracks or crevices common to pocket mops
  • The Geerpres® Click Mop is easy to wipe clean
  • The Geerpres® Click Mop makes replacing the mop a virtually hands-free process. Magnets position the mop perfectly every time so you can simply “click and clean.”
  • The Click Mop does not contain cotton or cellulose, meaning there is minimal potential for quat binding when using the Click Mop to apply quaternary disinfectants.

In addition to all of these features, the durability of the Geerpres® Click Mop maximizes cleaning budgets because it can provide up to twice the number of washing cycles as standard foam backed mops, which can typically provide 500 wash cycles on average. The Click Mop’s heavy canvas backing and the fact that there are minimal moving parts enhances this durability.

The Geerpres® Click Mop is not only durable; it’s also versatile. The Geerpres® Click Mop is available with a dry/damp mop with a low, looped pile construction that can be purchased with or without a fringe. The Geerpres® Click Mop can also be used with a charging mop system or a “bucketless” system. If you use a charging system, the Click Mop can be paired with the Geerpres® telescoping aluminum handle. If you use a “bucketless” system you could use the Geerpres® GPS™ 2000 system.

The innovative features, the durability, and the versatility make the new Click Mop system from Geerpres® the next generation alternative in microfiber mopping. The Geerpres® Click Mop can be a valuable tool for helping a hospital’s custodial staff charged with staving off infection wherever possible.
